Fishpond Impacted by Major Flooding
On March 7, 2017, a major flood occurred in Kihei, sending rushing torrential waters into our fishpond. Unfortunately, this has caused a major setback in the health of the pond and our surrounding ocean. It will take several weeks before the area is naturally flushed out by tides and currents. The public is advised to use caution and sound judgement when entering the water over the next few weeks. In general, if the water is brown, do not enter. Possible contaminated material and sewage may be present after the flood.
Unfortunately, our fishpond’s marine life has been impacted and the wall has fallen in several areas. We will resume our community work days when the waters clear and are safe again to enter.
